In addition to a safe base, YWHP also offers a myriad of support services to help the young women rebuild their lives and work towards a confident and successful future. Each woman receives therapeutic support and practical help in such areas as recovery and wellbeing, safe and healthy relationships, parenting, social and financial inclusion, and participation in the wider community.
The YWHP had been renting its main house, which also doubles as the charity’s headquarters, from the local authority for many years. Charity Bank, the ethical bank that uses savings to make loans to charities and social enterprises, provided a £100,000 loan towards the purchase of this property so that the charity could have more long-term security.
Jo Meagher, Project Manager at the YWHP, said: “We didn’t want to get a loan from a mainstream high street bank as it was important to us to use a provider who really understood how charities function.
“Charity Bank was so approachable and offered a really personalised service every step of the way. We had a dedicated couple of people at Charity Bank who understood our situation, were patient with us and offered us lots of support. They were always available at the end of the phone and were so caring and helpful, even when we came up against hurdles along the way.”
Jeremy Ince, Charity Bank Regional Manager, said: “Charity Bank exists to make sure that charities and social enterprises can always be there for the people and communities that need them. The Young Women’s Housing Project is an important organisation that offers vulnerable young women a safe place to call home where they can heal and begin to rebuild their lives. We’re proud to have been able to play a part in securing the future of this vital work.”
