DFS has been supporting BBC Children in Need as a corporate partner over the last four years raising more than £2million to date. In a new renovation initiative, DFS’s interior design experts are giving makeovers to projects supported by BBC Children in Need, with Young Womens’ Housing Project (YWHP) in Sheffield being the latest to benefit.

YWHP’s current three year grant from BBC Children In Need enables us to support children and young people 0-18yrs through our Parents As First Teachers (PAFT) programme; supporting young parents who have been victims of sexual abuse to bond and engage with their children; increasing their confidence as parents and providing the information, support and encouragement they need to help their children develop during the crucial early years of life.

Upon hearing about the need to revitalise this space into a bright and inspiring place for young women and their children who have been affected by sexual abuse & domestic violence, DFS decided to use their expertise and give something back to the team at YWHP.

Muz Hussain, Area Manager at DFS, said:

“When we heard about Young Womens’ Housing Project in Sheffield and how they do so much with so little, we really wanted to give something back to them”.

“Our interior design experts paid a visit to the team at Young Womens’ Housing Project and immediately set to work to makeover the accommodation and give it a new lease of life.

Firstly, we replaced the skirting in the hallway and damaged floorboards on the landing as well plastering the walls and laying carpet and underlay in the hallway, landing and down the stairs.

Once we were happy with this, we worked on the cosmetic necessities including accessorising the lounge and of course, we also provided some high-quality, handmade British sofas for everyone to comfortably enjoy.”

Lisa Wilson, Senior Partnership Account Manager at BBC Children in Need, added:

“BBC Children in Need supports projects like Young Womens’ Housing Project in Sheffield so they can continue to provide desperately needed services for women aged 16-25 years and their children, who have been affected by sexual abuse and domestic violence in their communities.

Young Womens’ Housing Project is just one example of a local organisation that receives funding from BBC Children in Need that makes a lasting difference to young lives.

Without the dedication of our corporate partners, like DFS, that fundraise throughout the year and raise funds through activities such as their ‘Give me 5’ initiative – we simply wouldn’t be able to support groups across the UK.”

Denise Whitehouse, Support Worker & Maintenance/H&S Officer at YWHP, commented:

“We could not be more grateful to DFS and BBC Children in Need for doing this for us”.

“Young Womens’ Housing Project is about providing supported accommodation and therapeutic provision to young women and their children who have experienced difficult situations and encouraging them to lead happier lives and to reach their full potential. Our accommodation has truly been given a facelift and has been warmly welcomed by everyone who uses it. BBC Children in Need and DFS have done so much for us and we are all thankful.”
