Student placements
We offer up to 2 counselling/psychotherapy student placements per year as part our specialist therapy team.
We offer placements to interested and suitably experienced students from postgraduate and higher diploma training courses such as Sheffield University MA Art Psychotherapy, Derby University MA Dance Movement Psychotherapy, Temenos Education – Counselling & Psychotherapy, and Chesterfield Level 4 Diploma in Counselling Practice.
Our Counselling and Psychotherapy placements are an opportunity to experience the diverse support services we provide, including Art therapy, DMP, Walking and Talking therapies. Your role will unfold with opportunities to participate in clinical drop-in sessions, engaging with 1-1 clients and group work, based on your comfort and suitability. Placements are designed around a set of key trauma informed principles based on engaging students with real life practice, collaborating with others, challenging them to think in new ways, and providing a supportive environment in which you can develop your skills and personal resilience as therapist.
We prioritise your growth and well-being and you will benefit from in-house supervision led by a qualified dance movement psychotherapist, coupled with invaluable peer supervision. These support systems ensure you thrive throughout your placement.
Our intakes for students are in January and September however, students can apply at any time. We aim to respond to potential applicants within 2 working weeks with further details and an application pack.
As a gender specific service, student placements are for self-identifying women only covered by The Equality Act 2010, Schedule 9, Part 1.
“I love what you do at the YWHP and I love the team. I've already learnt so much! Very stimulating and very powerful.”

"Whilst working at the YWHP both in placement and internship I was welcomed into the fold straight away and immediately felt part of this fantastic team. During this time I’ve been met with both challenging situations and extremely rewarding experiences and feel that I am gaining a wealth of knowledge. The access to additional training courses to further expand my knowledge has been available and I have accessed quite a few of those courses. Overall I am really enjoying my time at the YWHP and feel extremely supported and privileged to be in a position where I can be part of the Therapy team and help some of our young women with their mental health."
