Our approach

We provide up to 2 years free Counselling / Psychotherapy sessions. These can be face- to-face or remote via video or telephone.

We facilitate wellbeing and psycho-education programmes. These groups can also be delivered in schools and external organisations – please contact us for further information.

Our sessions are for young women, including self-identifying women (16-25 yr olds), non binary and their children who have been affected by relational abuse, including sexual abuse, domestic abuse and exploitation.

The relationship between client and therapist is at the core of each process and paramount to building resources, and addressing any issues the client chooses to bring.

Clients are given self-agency as much as possible both in and out of sessions, and each person’s experiences are valued and respected on an individual basis.

Prior to starting sessions, clients are guided through a referral process with YWHP staff where motivation, goals, needs, and safety are considered before an outcome is decided.

The specialist knowledge and practice skills of each therapist inform their work. For example, applying the concept of John Bowlby’s “secure base” within the relationship: Therapists receive regular external and internal clinical supervision, alongside frequent training, research/reading materials for support and to facilitate growth in their role.

All YWHP therapists and trainees are members of and adhere to a recognised professional standards bodies for safe and ethical therapeutic practice (BACP/UKCP/ADMP).

We currently offer dance movement psychotherapy (DMP), art therapy, integrative (or person centred) counselling and psychoeducation sessions.

Safety – The venue is easily accessible via bus and tram in the heart of the community.

Trustworthiness – The therapists adhere to the YWHP professional boundary policy at all times.

Clients are treated with respect. The therapy room is decorated in calming pastel shades using soft lighting, cushions and throws.

Choice; Collaboration; Empowerment – We deliver Person Centred Counselling, Creative Movement Therapy and Art Therapy. The clients choose the one that will suit their needs and have the option of changing if appropriate. Clients can access counselling face to face, remotely or a mixture both. Therapy is delivered individually and in group settings. In addition to the therapy room we have the use of a dance studio for CMT.
